Winged Disc -What Does it Mean?

Throughout history, man has held the most prominent celestial body of the Sun as a deeply meaningful symbol.  In ancient Egypt the Winged Disc of the Sun was a symbol of great significance, and this is is where we came upon this imagery to represent fundamental concepts that are embodied in our approach to service.  Find out more about Egyptian Sun Mythology:  The Sun God - Re     The Winged Disc of Horus

The ancient Winged Disc symbol is thought to be composed of the disc of the sun, with coronal plumes extending from it as viewed at the time of a total solar eclipse (and thus being seen as the wings), with the swirling solar gases seen as the uraei (the hooded cobras).  And, as the myth of Horus Behdety explains, the Winged Disc was placed placed over the doorways of the Egyptian temples for protection.

Over the ages, the Winged Disc has evolved stylistically and in symbolization to have a "modern" interpretation of including the following concepts:

Spiritual Guidance, Victory, Flight, Following one's intuition, Inspiration, Success

Wise guidance on a spiritual level
Ability to rise above problems or difficulties
             Achievement
             A time for reflection

These qualities influenced us to the use the Winged Disc as our name and logo symbol, because they reflect personal and public attributes that we strive to attain.

History

Ok, we named our company after an ancient Egyptian symbol, and we added "technologies" because that's what we're all about.  But where did we come from, and what got us to this point?

Winged Disc is a Limited Liability Company formed in June 2003 as a spin-off of the technology sales and consulting practice of  Haiden W. Turner & Associates, a public accounting firm originally formed in 1991.  From its inception,  Haiden W. Turner & Associates had a significant focus of its operations on accounting software sales, implementation, training, and support.  In December 2002, Haiden W. Turner & Associates sold its accounting and tax business, while retaining certain major clients and the core accounting software business.  The decision was then made to create a new entity, clearly specialized on the strengths of the practice that had been in place for years, but without any of the distractions of being seen as fundamentally a tax and accounting business.

This transition has positioned Winged Disc uniquely as having a long history of working closely with small and medium-sized organizations in the areas of income and payroll taxes, accounting and financial management, as well as accounting software and systems, and now concentrating solely in that area.  The company has the hands-on knowledge and experience of what is needed to achieve the necessary end-results in the areas of taxes and financial reporting, but is now not caught-up in the rat race of deadlines and the quagmire of burdensome professional regulations that, in many cases, stand in the way of getting the job done.
